Why use the Retro FWD Rear Shock brace brackets?
Made for enthusiasts by enthusiasts right here in the USA! Want to take corners harder in your ride? Want to increase the fun factor in your drives? Adding a shock brace is a good way to get there! These are some strong brackets with no welding required! Come powder coated black to look good for a lifetime. These brackets utilize 2 bar bolts each for extra bracing hold!
What is included in the kit?
This kit comes with the passenger and drivers shock brace brackets plus stainless steel socket cap bolts for your bar. We leave your choice of bar up to you! With a 1" spacing there are a lot of options from 1" round or square tubing to smaller diameters by using a spacer. The car pictured is a 1989 Oldsmobile cutlass calais and is using a 1" diameter .065" chromoly tube between the two brackets. This tube can be picked up at your local metal supplier or even Summit racing!
How to install.
- Follow all normal safety procedures when working on a vehicle.
- Pull back the trunk lining covering the top of shock mounts.
- Remove the mounting nuts from top of shock.
- Put the Retro FWD Rear shock brace brackets on the mounts and loosely put the nuts on.
- Measure the distance between the passenger and driver shock mount brace brackets (we shoot for the flat before the slope down to the plate).
- Take that measurement from step 6 and cut the length of bar you provided.
- Once cut, place the bar in the strut brackets and mark where the bolt holes go through.
- Drill out the holes on the strut bar.
- Paint the bar in the color of your choice, or leave it bare that could be cool too!
- This step is optional but a good time to trim the trunk lining to fit the new Retro FWD brackets and your bar before tightening everything down.
- Tighten down the nuts on the shocks. GM kinda just drilled the shock mounts anywhere, so its ok if the bracket conforms to the body.
- Go try out your new cornering beast!
